Pinecone Birds Tutorial

Pinecone Birds Tutorial

Fall Nature Craft Pinecone Birds During one of our nature walks, my 3 year old son collected a little bag full of “treasures”. Among his finds there were sticks in various sizes (a thoughtful gift for his stick-loving older brother), leaves, various pinecones and rocks. At home, it became evident that he had gathered the perfect materials for a quick and easy  fall nature craft.  We quickly decided to make pinecone birds.   Pinecone Birds Tutorial I put together a quick visual guide to help you make your own.  But the fun part is in letting your kids, and their

DIY Superhero Costume Tutorial: Round-up We are in Halloween mode around here. Nothing has been decorated, nor made.  But there are lots of Halloween talk going on. DIY Cardboard Box Airplane

DIY Cardboard Box Airplane

I must say we had a great Holiday Season, surrounded by lots of family, (a little alcohol) and lots of good food. Now things are slowly going back to normal and the kids and I are always looking for fun things to do around here…which brings me to big, empty cardboard boxes!! Post-Holidays, once the gift-giving season is over, everyone ends up with lots of cardboard boxes. For some, they are just stuff that gets discarded, but in our home, we get excited with the possibilities (yes, they are endless). Most of the time we only have access to

Believe in the Magic: Personalized Video Message from Santa

Believe in the Magic: Personalized Video Message from Santa

I absolutely have to share this with everyone. If you have little ones at home who still believe that jolly old Santa will come down the chimney with a bag full of presents, you will be happy to know that your child can receive his/her very own personalized video message from the man himself.  I created two messages, one for Phoenix and one for Connor, and they were a HIT!! The expression on their faces was truly priceless as Santa addressed them by name, and told them a couple of personal things.  Santa also showed them their file (complete with

DIY Teepee Tent for the Kids Playroom

DIY Teepee Tent for the Kids Playroom

I am one of the lucky moms whose kids have really good sleeping habits.  My mild sleep deprivation is not a side-effect of having young children, but the result of my own inability to go to bed at a decent time…(yeah, crafting seems to be addictive!).  In fact, ever since both of my kiddos were about 3 months old, they stared sleeping through the night, in their own room.  I always reinforced a strong bed time routine: dinner, some playtime, bath, story time, and (lights off) sleep time.  I think that one of the key factors that has really helped

DIY Child Bike Basket Tutorial Round Up

DIY Child Bike Basket Tutorial Round Up

If you answered: “bikes without any cool bike baskets”, then YES!! you are totally right!  That’s the very same thing I too noticed today when I took both my kids (the lovely boys in the photos) out for a bike ride  and had to hold all the stuff little boys tend to collect and carry around with them (cars, rocks, leafs, sticks, etc).  Right then, with the sun gently caressing my face, I had an epiphany: “must make bike baskets!”. Well, I have never made a basket in my life, so I asked my best friend Google for help

DIY Pretend Play Supermarket

DIY Pretend Play Supermarket

I made this pretend play supermarket for my kids last spring.  I wanted to learn to work with wood and use power tools, so this seemed the perfect beginners project. This is a very quick and easy project specially because the main components of this pretend play supermarket are 2 ready-made Ikea shoe shelves and 2×4′s. The pretend play supermarket was a breeze  to put together, and was ready to open for business in a couple of hours.  What took the longest was stocking up the newly created Organic Market.  I didn’t really want any cheap plastic stuff in there,

Owl Sandwich

Owl Sandwich

Phoenix used to eat absolutely everything as a baby…then something changed and he became a picky eater. He loves fruit and some raw vegetables, but has trouble with cooked veggies and he is big on textures…and presentation. If it doesn’t look right he declares after a quick glance “I don’t like it”. Mommy is always trying to make his food fun to entice him to eat…yes, it takes a bit of extra effort, but it is worth it. Here’s an owl I put together for him with pita bread and lots of veggies:

Fun Food for Picky Eaters

Fun Food for Picky Eaters

Meals can be a very stressful time if you have a picky eater who seems to survive only on plain noodles and fish-shaped crackers.  Today we stumbled on a solution that worked like a charm to get my 2 year old Phoenix, a fussy eater, not only to actually try the veggies on his plate, but to eat a whole portion of them. When Phoenix kept asking me to draw a rocket, instead, I arranged some of the foods on his plate in the shape of a rocket flying towards a cheese and cracker planet.       Phoenix got
