Panda Party Hat Tutorial

Here’s  a quick tutorial on how to make a panda party hat for your child’s panda-themed party:

{TOOLS + MATERIALS}

  • white, black and pink cardstock (I actually used craft foam, just because I got the urge to make them very late at night and that was all I had handy)
  • a party hat (to use as a template)
  • elastic
  • scissors, glue gun

{HOW-TO}

Begin by tracing the party onto white cardstock, mark where the elastic will go.  Cut your newly traced hat.  Use the glue gun to glue the edges in place. You now have a basic white party hat.  All that is left to do is the finishing touches.

Cut two half circles out of black cardstock for the ears, two black ovals for the eyes, and a small circle or oval for the nose.  Cut two small white circles for the inner eyes, and two small pink circles for the cheeks.  I don’t have templates for this, since I used basic shapes to build the face details: circles and ovals.   [If you really need a template, you can download my panda applique pattern, and enlarge it as needed.

Use a glue stick or a glue gun to attach all the pieces in place.  And finally, we need to attach the elastic.  Cut two small white circles, glue them to the inside of the panda party hat directly across from each other where you made your marking for the elastics when tracing the hat. This will prevent the hat from being ripped by the elastic when there is any tension.

I threaded my elastic in a tapestry needle, poked two small holes in the panda party hat and tied the ends. Like this:

Voila, your panda party hat is all done!  Easy, peasy!!
