Baby/Toddler Neck Warmer – Tutorial

Here is a pattern for a very easy neck warmer. If you have basic crocheting skills, you can definitely make this warmer in no time. This pattern (my very own and the first one Ishare)can be easily modified to fit larger or smaller sizes. The instructions I am providing are ideal for a baby/toddler.

Materials Needed:

  • Medium weight, Worsted weight yarn (colour A and B)
  • Hook size 5.5mmm
  • fleece or cotton knit fabric to line the inside (optional)
  • 3 buttons
  • velcro dots
  • needle, thread

Neck Warmer:

  1. With yarn A, and hook, ch 20.
  2. 1dc in second ch from hook, and in each ch across. Ch2. Turn. (18)
  3. **1dc in next st, and in each st across. Ch2. Turn. (18)
  4. 1dc in next st, and in each st across. Ch2. Turn. (18)
  5. 1dc in next st, and in each st across. Ch2. Turn. (18)
  6. 1hdc in next st and in each across. Ch2. Turn. (18)**
  7. repeat rounds 3-6 (from ** to **) until your piece measures 20in. (you can make it shorter for smaller children, or longer for adults). Fasten off and tie in ends.

Trim:

Starting at one of the corners and with yarn B, attach yarn with sc, sc in each st around, spacing evenly and continue in this way all the way around. Slst to join. Fasten off and tie ends.

Lining:

My finished piece measures 6in x 20in. If you want put a lining in your warmer, just measure it and then cut a piece of fabric you like to the inside of it. My preference is usually fleece or cotton knits. In this case I used a soft cotton knit fabric. Tack in the raw edges, pin it in place, just so that the trim remains visible. Stich in place. This can be done either by hand or with your sewing machine.

Finishing touches:

All that remains to do is to sew in your velcro dots. I placed three of them evenly spaced. You can sew them in by hand or using a sewing machine. To hide the velcro stitching on the finished warmer, I put three buttons in place right over where the stitching was showing. Here is what the inside looks like:

If you end up using this pattern, I would love to see pictures of your finished product.

If you don’t feel like making it, but would love to have it, you can find it on my Etsy Shop or at my ArtFire Studio.
